Meet the expert behind the Bay Tunes Guitars PRO SHOP...
The Bay Tunes Guitars PRO SHOP is exclusively operated inside the store
by Bay Tunes' own Jeff Packett.
Jeff is a 10 year veteran of professional guitar setups, repairs, and
upgrades. Having spent countless hands-on hours learning about
guitar setup and repair theories with renowned luthier Phil
Jacoby,
Jeff provides unparalleled service for all kinds of guitars
and for all kinds of guitarists.
PRO SHOP philosophy...
At the Bay Tunes Guitars PRO SHOP, it is the belief of our repair expert that there is no such thing as an
ideal setup or modification which doesn't involve the preferences and personal style of the player.
There are many guitar repair shops that offer "super-tunes" and setups for your instrument, but only
at our PRO SHOP will you receive a setup that is as unique as you are! All people are not created equal,
all guitars are not created equal, and most importantly all playing styles are not created equal -
so why
should the setup of your instrument be universal?
Frequently Asked Questions
What makes it a PRO SHOP?
In the world of instrument and electronic repair, consumers usually have
to leave their instruments in places with no real promise of
repair costs, advice on the issues at hand and, most importantly,
no idea of when they may see their beloved guitar again! As with
most repair shops, the Bay Tunes PRO SHOP is
sometimes at the mercy of available parts for your application,
but in every other way it operates as a true PRO SHOP which
means that, in most cases, you can actually watch your instrument
while it is being worked on, and you can usually take it with
you the same day you come in! It's also a place where you can
get real-world advice about how your instruments' set-up relates
to your playing style so you can make informed decisions about
changes you might like to make.
What instruments does the PRO SHOP work on?
At the PRO SHOP Jeff does repairs on ALL guitars (including electric, acoustic, 12-string, classical, and
bass guitars.) There are some unique fretted instruments (banjos, mandolins, lap steels, lutes, steel
guitars) that Jeff can often provide guidance and some help for you. However, he does not specialize in
these instruments.
What are some of the services offered?
Restringing, basic setup, pickup installations, bone nut and bridge saddles, wiring modifications,
potentiometer replacements, output jack replacements, machine head installations, misc. part
installations, and many more services are offered in-store, often on a same-day basis. Structural repairs,
neck resets, refretting, leveling, bridge plate replacements, and many other repairs are also provided by
our PRO SHOP but are performed off-site, in partnership with the Philtone Guitar Company. Please call
for details on these repair services.
What About Cost?
The Bay Tunes Guitars PRO SHOP offers free estimates, but has a $15 minimum bench fee for any work
performed. Restringing costs vary by instrument, but start at $20. Guitar setup costs vary by
instrument, but start at $30. The current bench rate for services is $60 per hour.
